One pallet or several,
start with the full shipment.
Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and other businesses ship palletised goods for supplier orders, warehouse transfers and customer deliveries. The right arrangement depends on space, weight, handling and timing, not pallet count alone.
Less-than-truckload
LTL can suit freight that does not need a full truckload. Confirm how the carrier will handle the shipment, any transfers involved and the delivery arrangements. See the LTL freight page for related load-board information.
Full truckload
Larger shipments or freight requiring exclusive trailer use may call for a truckload arrangement. State the space, payload and loading needs, and confirm the proposed equipment with the carrier.
Smaller or direct moves
A straight truck or other suitable vehicle may work for a smaller commercial shipment. Check payload, door dimensions and loading equipment. A smaller truck does not automatically include a tailgate or inside delivery.
Include the pallet.
Include the packaging.
For each pallet or skid, provide the overall length, width and loaded height. Measure the complete shipping unit, including the pallet and any packaging that extends beyond the goods.
State the gross weight of each unit, including its base and packaging, and the total shipment weight. Use clear units such as inches and pounds or centimetres and kilograms.
If the pallets differ in size or weight, list them separately. Tell carriers whether anything can be stacked on top and identify any unusual shape or handling limitation. A pallet count by itself is not enough to evaluate trailer space or equipment fit.

Tell the carrier how
the pallet gets on and off.
Confirm access at both ends of the shipment. A warehouse loading dock, a ground-level business entrance and a residential address can require different arrangements.
If there is no suitable dock or unloading equipment, ask about tailgate service before booking. The loaded pallet must fit the equipment's dimensions and capacity; confirm that with the carrier rather than assuming every tailgate can handle it.
Specify whether you need delivery to the receiving area, inside the building or another agreed point. Explain surface or access limitations and who will handle the freight. Inside delivery and pallet-jack assistance should be agreed services, not assumptions.
Make the pallet ready
before the truck arrives.
Packaging needs depend on the product and transportation arrangement. Confirm the selected carrier's requirements, especially for fragile, high-value or unusual freight.
- Check the base: use a sound pallet or skid suitable for the load and the handling equipment.
- Keep the load stable: package and secure the goods appropriately, avoiding unsupported overhang. Tell the carrier about any unusual dimensions.
- Identify handling limits: disclose fragile items and non-stackable freight before the offer is agreed.
- Label the shipment: use clear shipment references and destination information, and remove confusing old labels.
- Prepare the handoff: have the cargo, contact details and required freight documents ready for the collection window.

Check that the carrier can handle the loaded units. Confirm any tailgate, inside delivery, temperature control or extra-stop requirements.
Timing & changes
Agree on pickup and receiving windows. If the pallet count, measurements, location or schedule changes, ask the carrier to reconfirm the offer.

Can I ship one pallet through Logistware?
You can post a single-pallet shipment for carriers to evaluate. Include its loaded dimensions, gross weight, route and handling requirements. Carrier participation and suitable capacity are not guaranteed.
What measurements do I need for pallet or skid shipping?
Provide each loaded unit's overall length, width and height, including the base and packaging. State the gross weight, total pallet count, measurement units and whether the freight is stackable.
Does every pallet have to be 48 by 40 inches?
No. That is a common pallet footprint, but it is not a universal requirement for every shipment or carrier. Post the actual loaded measurements and confirm the chosen carrier's equipment and acceptance requirements.
Can I ship pallets without a loading dock?
Potentially, with suitable arrangements agreed in advance. Tell the carrier that a location has no dock and confirm any tailgate or other handling requirement. Check the loaded pallet's fit, weight and site access.
Is pallet shipping always LTL?
No. Palletised freight can move as LTL, a truckload or another suitable arrangement. Quantity, space, weight, handling and timing determine what makes sense for the shipment.
How much does pallet shipping cost in Canada?
Request offers using the actual lane, loaded measurements, weight, timing and services. Compare the complete work included in each carrier bid rather than assuming a fixed price per pallet.
Can I post non-stackable pallet freight?
Yes. Clearly describe it as non-stackable before carriers bid. Additional space and handling needs can affect equipment suitability and the offer. Confirm acceptance with the selected carrier.
Can pallet freight move between Canada and the United States?
Yes, cross-border freight is supported through the same load board. Confirm the documentation, packaging and operating requirements for the actual shipment with the responsible transportation parties.
